CHAIRPERSON (YEE KIET)
The role of the Chairperson encompasses commitment towards both portfolio events and WSC-wide initiatives. The Chairperson should aim to be working with the volunteers, regardless of their experiences, to achieve any objective set for the team.

Being both involved in the WSC management committee and the portfolio main committee, it is important for the chairperson to be able to coordinate and liaise with other portfolios, various student bodies and external organisations to secure collaborations or even long-term sponsorships.

When it comes to events, both the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson(s) will ensure that the necessary forms and proposals are duly submitted to the appropriate student offices on time. It is important to be open to new ideas and at the same time weigh the costs and benefits of any proposition. It is good to know that for every problem comes a costly solution as well as an economical one. I say make decisions with safety, feasibility and the elderly in mind.
Other ad-hoc tasks, aside from organising Elder’s appreciation dinners and the orientation camp, would be to prepare for the school’s rally and Annual General Meeting. The Chairperson must be able to work closely with the vice-chairpersons to plan volunteer induction programmes and facilitate the recruitment drive. The welfare of the main committee should not be forgotten as well!

Appreciation for our volunteers is just as relevant as the well-being of our social service users. When it comes to volunteer management, it is essential to adopt a strategy that works not only for the Chairperson but also leverages on the strengths of the main committee. Just as how no two individuals are the same, every main committee will be different, but an approach built on understanding is always a good starting point.
In my brief journey as chairperson, it was a pleasure working with 14 other committee members who often went beyond their scope of duties to see events through to completion. I am fortunate to have such an enthusiastic and forgiving bunch of Group Leaders to lead RSP (Elders)! I proudly say that it has been a fruitful year with various life lessons, friendships and heartfelt moments to take away!
